Discology

TOKYO STREET PHOTOGRAPHER KATSUMI WATANABE'S USUAL
SUBJECTS WERE THE UNDERWORLD CHARACTERS OF THE SHINJUKU DISTRICT. BUT IN HIS 1982 BOOK, DISCOLOGY , THE
PROSTITUTES AND THE
YAKUZA ARE MIXING IT UP
WITH THE DISCO PUNKS.
NEW AGE, NEW WAVE.

Under these black and pink covers are two hundred black and white photographs shot in the Kabukicho area of Shinjuku, Tokyo: an area of the city which became known colloquially as 'Japan from the waist down.'

She is squeezing as much fun from her night out as she possibly can. And she looks great. Her 'no style' style is what makes this book so brilliant. It's not one thing or another, its, as they say these days, everything!

They can not get enough of each other (left). He can not get enough of himself (right). What a double page this is. It'd be a dream mail order catalogue. We'd go her bangle/watch and the wider of his belts!

Firstly the fashion. The shoes! Secondly, the land line! Thirdly, everything else. There are some great shapes in this book.

And some attitude. That is a a 'Be Humble. You Cool Fucker' bootleg Snoopy biker patch stitched onto a v-neck medical scrubs top!

Best look yet. She has everything right. In fact see this link to the full slideshow) the book has everything right.

There had to be a Japanese female Gary Numan at some point in space and time. Page 160 of Discology is where to find her/him.
