Girl's Fashion

GIRL'S FASHION 1970-1988.
THE PERSONAL STYLE OF A NATION. THERE ARE OVER
1500 PHOTOS IN NOBUMI KURIMOTO'S OBSESSIVE SUPERBOOK. IT IS THE MOST DETAILED DOCUMENT OF
WHAT WAS WORN, HOW AND WHERE IT WAS WORN, THAT
WE HAVE EVER SEEN.

Girl's Fashion 1970-1988 is subtitled Sapporo-Okinawa . That is, for anyone not up to speed on their Japanese geography, one end of the country to the other. It is about 1500 miles, which translates to about one photograph a mile in Nobumi Kurimoto's epic photographic journey.
She won't be walking the 1500 miles in those shoes. Her jacket and scarf indicates she is closer to the Winter Olympic cool of the north than the tropical south (in fact the photograph is annotated '1980 Sapporo'). Only one question remains: what is that folded under her arm?
We can do subtle! 1981 Tokyo. This is street fashion in its original most unassuming form. Neither she nor he (the photographer) are product endorsed superstar bloggers but that is still one absolute must have cardigan!
There is a lot going on with that jacket - all of it good. 1987 Gofukucho, Shizuoka. The later years of the book do reflect an increasing self-awareness. There are more 'types' but, as before, all of them good!
Back to the seventies and this woman is skateboarding while dressed like Billie Jean King at a feminist rally. We cropped the photo but be assured it is one of the short boards that seem to be ever so cool again.
Playing Frisbee in braces. She can not be compared to anyone. That is a unique look. Again we have cropped the photo but the jeans are turned up. See everything we cut out and a lot more on this slideshow link and buy here.
