L'Abito Per Pensare

L'ABITO PER PENSARE. THE 1989 GIANNI VERSACE SUPER BOOK.
THE SINGLE BEST FASHION
BOOK EVER? CERTO!

This is L'Abito Per Pensare a 350 page super book documenting the first ten years of Gianni Versace's fashion design. The decade in question was of course the 80's and this book must be the world's most detailed visual record of studded knitwear, padded shoulders and deep pleated leather jackets... and that's just the menswear! See it all here.

And for her - the single colour silk assassin look. Behind the scarf is Talisa Soto (one of our favourite ever models) photographed here by Richard Avedon. She is also on the cover of the book (above) photographed by Bruce Weber.

Wow. How to look like a million Lira! Dealing with the facts first; this is from a Bruce Weber photographed campaign for the Autumn/Winter 1983-84 Versace collection. Weber's model is wearing three historic garments; the sweater, the jacket and the hood (which may or may not be part of the jacket but, notably, is a perfect match for the model's eyes).

For the man who has everything... the freedom to wear gloves and keep your hands in your pockets! These tweed trousers from the same A/W 1983/84 collection as the blue hood (above). It could be menswear's greatest moment.
